Travel insurance: limits side by side

UK policies checked on 22 October 2026. These are standard bundled limits, not personalised quotes. Excesses and sub-limits vary by claim type; medical acceptance and upgrades can change your cover. A higher headline limit does not remove exclusions.

The short answer

Black has the highest standard cancellation limit in this comparison (£10,000 per insured person). Platinum’s medical limit is £2m versus £10m on the other retrieved policies; suitability still depends on ages, conditions and payment rules.

Which differences actually change the shortlist?

For a 40-day holiday, standard FlexPlus needs an extension and Metal covers only its first 30 days. Monzo’s 45-day limit can accommodate the trip, but a journey longer than 45 days is excluded in its entirety. Platinum, Black and Ultra have 90-day standard limits, subject to their other conditions.

For an £8,000-per-person booking, Black’s £10,000 cancellation ceiling is higher than Platinum’s £7,500 and FlexPlus/Metal’s standard £5,000. FlexPlus offers a paid higher-limit upgrade. Monzo’s individual table says £5,000 per claim; family aggregation has not been verified. Ultra’s separate cancellation is not a verified per-person allowance.

Medical history and older travellers

Platinum emergency medical cover requires being under 70 throughout the trip, while Black can offer a paid age extension at 70+. Monzo accepts new applicants aged 18–69 and has separate continuation rules around ages 70–71. Revolut’s Chubb wording requires under 76 at holiday start; confirm the in-app rules for a 76th birthday during travel.

No adult upper-age restriction was found in the retrieved FlexPlus eligibility wording, but an explicit current no-upper-age-limit statement was not obtained. That is a verification gap, not an age restriction invented by Perkfolio.

FlexPlus and Black can screen conditions and may offer paid cover. Monzo and Revolut exclude defined pre-existing conditions; we did not establish a paid buy-out. Platinum uses an accepted-conditions list. Disclosing a condition is not, by itself, proof that it is insured.

Policy versions and evidence gaps

Revolut publishes both Chubb and XCover documents. This comparison uses the retrieved UK Chubb booklets and current help-page conditions; your in-app certificate controls. Do not combine one version’s insurer, limits and excess with another version’s eligibility.

Ultra’s separate cancellation amounts are verified from official help, not the full cancellation contract. Its underlying cancellation insurer and all exclusions remain unverified. Monzo’s retrieved wording was individual cover; family eligibility is sourced from official help, not an assumed multiplication of individual limits.

Source document dates: Platinum January 2025; FlexPlus P4197 June 2024; Black October 2026; Monzo policy code June 2025 with account terms dated 13 August 2026; Metal policy code April 2025. Ultra Chubb issue date was not established. These document dates differ from our 22 October 2026 review date.

Cruise cover is not one benefit

FlexPlus includes ordinary cruise travel, with an optional extended-cruise upgrade for specialist protection. Black expressly includes cruises but excludes missed ports/excursions caused by itinerary changes. Monzo includes cruises in its trip definition; specialist missed-port or cabin-confinement cover was not established.

Platinum and Revolut cruise-specific benefits were not fully established. A cruise reference or worldwide travel label is not proof of comprehensive cruise disruption cover. Check your exact itinerary and activity against the full wording.
